E-mail blijft een van de belangrijkste kanalen voor klantcontact. Maar wie wel eens handmatig leads heeft overgetypt vanuit Outlook naar Odoo, weet hoeveel tijd dat kost — en hoeveel informatie er onderweg verloren gaat. De Odoo Outlook-plugin lost dat op: je maakt leads, opportunities, taken en contactpersonen rechtstreeks aan vanuit een geopende e-mail, zonder tabs te wisselen.

In deze post laten we zien wat de plugin doet en hoe je 'm installeert op Windows, macOS en Outlook op het web.

Wat kan de Odoo Outlook-plugin?

Zodra de plugin geactiveerd is, verschijnt er een Odoo-paneel naast je e-mail. Vanuit dat paneel kun je:

  • Contactpersonen opzoeken in Odoo op basis van het e-mailadres van de afzender
  • Nieuwe contacten of leads aanmaken met één klik — naam, e-mail en bedrijfsgegevens worden automatisch ingevuld
  • E-mails als bericht loggen onder een bestaande lead, opportunity of klantkaart
  • Taken of opportunities aanmaken direct vanuit de e-mailweergave
  • Verrijkte bedrijfsinformatie ophalen via Odoo's IAP-service (afhankelijk van je abonnement)

Kortom: je inbox wordt een verlengstuk van je CRM.

Wat heb je nodig?

Vanaf Odoo 15 host Odoo het manifestbestand centraal — je hoeft dus niks te genereren vanuit je eigen omgeving. Je gebruikt voor alle installaties dezelfde manifest-URL:

Je eigen Odoo-URL en inloggegevens heb je pas nodig bij de eerste keer dat je de plugin opent in Outlook — dan koppel je 'm aan je instance.

Heb je CRM of Helpdesk in gebruik? Zorg dat de bijbehorende modules (mail_plugin, crm_mail_plugin, helpdesk_mail_plugin, project_mail_plugin) geïnstalleerd zijn in Odoo. Zonder deze modules zie je wel contacten, maar geen leads, tickets of taken in het paneel.

Installation on Windows (Outlook desktop)

  1. Open Outlook op je Windows-machine.
  2. Klik bovenin op het tabblad Start en kies Invoegtoepassingen ophalen (of in oudere versies: Bestand → Invoegtoepassingen beheren).
  3. In het venster dat opent kies je links Mijn invoegtoepassingen.
  4. Scroll naar Aangepaste invoegtoepassingen en klik op + Aangepaste invoegtoepassing toevoegen → Toevoegen vanuit URL.
  5. Plak de manifest-URL: https://download.odoocdn.com/plugins/outlook/manifest.xml en bevestig met OK.
  6. Accepteer de waarschuwing over aangepaste invoegtoepassingen en klik op Installeren.
  7. Sluit het venster. In de Outlook-lintbalk verschijnt nu een Odoo-knop bij iedere geopende e-mail.

De eerste keer dat je op de Odoo-knop klikt, vraagt de plugin naar je Odoo-URL (bijv. https://jouwbedrijf.odoo.com) en logt je vervolgens in via de reguliere Odoo-loginpagina. Daarna blijft de sessie actief.

Installatie op macOS

Let op: in de huidige versies van Outlook voor Mac opent de knop «Invoegtoepassingen ophalen» de Microsoft AppSource-winkel in je browser. Daar kun je geen aangepaste manifest-URL invoeren. De enige werkende route op de Mac is daarom: installeer de add-in via Outlook op het web met hetzelfde Microsoft 365-account, en de plugin synct automatisch naar je Mac-Outlook.

Werkwijze via Outlook op het web

  1. Sluit Outlook voor Mac (of laat 'm op de achtergrond staan — hij laadt de add-in na synchronisatie vanzelf opnieuw).
  2. Open in je browser outlook.office.com en log in met hetzelfde Microsoft 365-account dat je op je Mac gebruikt.
  3. Open een willekeurige e-mail en klik rechtsboven op het …-menu (meer acties) → Invoegtoepassingen ophalen.
  4. Kies links Mijn invoegtoepassingen.
  5. Scroll naar Aangepaste invoegtoepassingen en klik op + Aangepaste invoegtoepassing toevoegen → Toevoegen vanuit URL.
  6. Plak: https://download.odoocdn.com/plugins/outlook/manifest.xml en bevestig met OK.
  7. Accepteer de waarschuwing en klik op Installeren.
  8. Open Outlook op je Mac opnieuw. Binnen een paar minuten verschijnt de Odoo-knop in de actiebalk van een geopende mail (puzzelstukje-icoon → Odoo).

Verschijnt de knop niet meteen? Start Outlook voor Mac volledig opnieuw op (Cmd+Q) of wacht maximaal 15 minuten — add-ins worden per gebruiker vanuit Exchange Online gesynchroniseerd.

Alternatief: centraal uitrollen via de Microsoft 365-beheerder

Beheer je meerdere Mac-gebruikers? Laat de Microsoft 365-beheerder de add-in één keer uitrollen via het Microsoft 365-beheercentrum → Instellingen → Geïntegreerde apps → App uploaden, met dezelfde CDN-URL. Gebruikers hoeven dan zelf niks te doen — de plugin verschijnt vanzelf in hun Outlook, ook op de Mac.

Installation in Outlook on the web (Microsoft 365)

Werk je vooral via de browser? Dan ben je in feite al klaar met bovenstaande stappen onder macOS. Voor de volledigheid:

  1. Open outlook.office.com en log in.
  2. Open een willekeurige e-mail.
  3. Klik rechtsboven in de mail op het …-menu en kies Invoegtoepassingen ophalen.
  4. Ga naar Mijn invoegtoepassingen → Aangepaste invoegtoepassingen.
  5. Klik op + Aangepaste invoegtoepassing toevoegen → Toevoegen vanuit URL.
  6. Plak: https://download.odoocdn.com/plugins/outlook/manifest.xml en bevestig.
  7. Klik op Installeren.

De Odoo-knop verschijnt nu in de actiebalk van elke mail.

Eerste keer verbinden met je Odoo-instance

Ongeacht op welke plek je de add-in geïnstalleerd hebt: de eerste keer dat je 'm opent in een e-mail, zie je een klein paneel met een invoerveld. Voer daar je Odoo-URL in (bijv. https://jouwbedrijf.odoo.com) en klik op Inloggen. Je wordt doorgestuurd naar de standaard Odoo-loginpagina, en na succesvol inloggen blijft de verbinding behouden — je hoeft dit per apparaat slechts één keer te doen.

Veelvoorkomende problemen

Conclusie

Met de Odoo Outlook-plugin breng je CRM en inbox samen op de plek waar je commerciële team toch al het grootste deel van de dag doorbrengt. De installatie kost vijf minuten, de tijdwinst per week is aanzienlijk — zeker voor sales- en supportmedewerkers die dagelijks tientallen mails verwerken.

Email remains one of the most important channels for customer contact. But anyone who has ever manually retyped leads from Outlook into Odoo knows how much time that costs — and how much information gets lost along the way. The Odoo Outlook plugin solves that: you create leads, opportunities, tasks and contacts directly from an open email, without switching tabs.

In this post we show what the plugin does and how you install it on Windows, macOS and Outlook on the web.

What can the Odoo Outlook plugin do?

Once the plugin is activated, an Odoo panel appears next to your email. From that panel you can:

  • Look up contacts in Odoo based on the sender's email address
  • Create new contacts or leads with one click — name, email and company details are filled in automatically
  • Log emails as a message under an existing lead, opportunity or customer record
  • Create tasks or opportunities directly from the email view
  • Retrieve enriched company information via Odoo's IAP service (depending on your subscription)

In short: your inbox becomes an extension of your CRM.

What do you need?

From Odoo 15 onwards, Odoo hosts the manifest file centrally — so you don't have to generate anything from your own environment. You use the same manifest URL for all installations:

You only need your own Odoo URL and login credentials the first time you open the plugin in Outlook — that's when you link it to your instance.

Are you using CRM or Helpdesk? Make sure the corresponding modules (mail_plugin, crm_mail_plugin, helpdesk_mail_plugin, project_mail_plugin) are installed in Odoo. Without these modules you will see contacts, but no leads, tickets or tasks in the panel.

Installation on Windows (Outlook desktop)

  1. Open Outlook on your Windows machine.
  2. At the top, click the Home tab and choose Get Add-ins (or in older versions: File → Manage Add-ins).
  3. In the window that opens, choose My add-ins on the left.
  4. Scroll to Custom add-ins and click + Add a custom add-in → Add from URL.
  5. Paste the manifest URL: https://download.odoocdn.com/plugins/outlook/manifest.xml and confirm with OK.
  6. Accept the warning about custom add-ins and click Install.
  7. Close the window. An Odoo button now appears in the Outlook ribbon for every opened email.

The first time you click the Odoo button, the plugin asks for your Odoo URL (e.g. https://yourcompany.odoo.com) and then logs you in via the regular Odoo login page. After that the session stays active.

Installation on macOS

Note: in the current versions of Outlook for Mac, the «Get Add-ins» button opens the Microsoft AppSource store in your browser. You cannot enter a custom manifest URL there. The only working route on the Mac is therefore: install the add-in via Outlook on the web with the same Microsoft 365 account, and the plugin syncs automatically to your Mac Outlook.

Procedure via Outlook on the web

  1. Close Outlook for Mac (or leave it running in the background — it will reload the add-in automatically after synchronization).
  2. In your browser, open outlook.office.com and log in with the same Microsoft 365 account that you use on your Mac.
  3. Open any email and click the … menu (more actions) at the top right → Get Add-ins.
  4. Choose My add-ins on the left.
  5. Scroll to Custom add-ins and click + Add a custom add-in → Add from URL.
  6. Paste: https://download.odoocdn.com/plugins/outlook/manifest.xml and confirm with OK.
  7. Accept the warning and click Install.
  8. Reopen Outlook on your Mac. Within a few minutes the Odoo button appears in the action bar of an opened email (puzzle-piece icon → Odoo).

Doesn't the button appear right away? Fully restart Outlook for Mac (Cmd+Q) or wait up to 15 minutes — add-ins are synchronized per user from Exchange Online.

Alternative: central rollout via the Microsoft 365 administrator

Do you manage multiple Mac users? Have the Microsoft 365 administrator roll out the add-in once via the Microsoft 365 admin center → Settings → Integrated apps → Upload app, with the same CDN URL. Users then don't have to do anything themselves — the plugin appears automatically in their Outlook, also on the Mac.

Installation in Outlook on the web (Microsoft 365)

Do you mainly work via the browser? Then you are in fact already done with the steps above under macOS. For completeness:

  1. Open outlook.office.com and log in.
  2. Open any email.
  3. At the top right of the email, click the … menu and choose Get Add-ins.
  4. Go to My add-ins → Custom add-ins.
  5. Click + Add a custom add-in → Add from URL.
  6. Paste: https://download.odoocdn.com/plugins/outlook/manifest.xml and confirm.
  7. Click Install.

The Odoo button now appears in the action bar of every email.

Connecting to your Odoo instance for the first time

Regardless of where you installed the add-in: the first time you open it in an email, you see a small panel with an input field. Enter your Odoo URL there (e.g. https://yourcompany.odoo.com) and click Log in. You are redirected to the standard Odoo login page, and after successful login the connection is retained — you only have to do this once per device.

Common problems

Conclusion

With the Odoo Outlook plugin you bring CRM and inbox together in the place where your commercial team already spends most of the day anyway. The installation takes five minutes, the weekly time saving is considerable — especially for sales and support staff who process dozens of emails every day.
