Standard Cost vs. FIFO for Product Valuation
DAADit Group, Nick

Situation: Odoo offers Standard Price, Average Cost (AVCO) and FIFO. You do not know which to choose and what the effect is on your margin reporting.

Solution: Standard Price: fixed cost price, handy for production with stable prices. Differences go to a 'price variance' account. AVCO: weighted average after every purchase — good for bulk trade. FIFO: each purchased batch keeps its own cost price until it is sold — most accurate for volatile purchase prices and required for IFRS.

Tip: never switch method in the middle of a financial year — you lose the historical valuation. Choose deliberately at implementation, record the choice with your accountant, and stick to it.
